5 Steps For Learning The Piano

July 31st, 2009 by ama

You may never be able to rival the best of the best as a pianist, but anybody with the real desire to learn the piano will be able to indulge their passion to some level that will satisfy them. All you need is an appropriate time commitment and the determination to keep at it.

Here's a checklist of five steps to follow as you learn the piano:

1. You need to be able to practice whenever you feel like it. It's not enough to only practice once per week using your teacher's piano. Plan to practice for at least thirty minutes per day because the piano is not an easy instrument to learn. This is not possible if you don't have easy access to a piano. If you can't use a real piano, it's ok to use an electronic keyboard. And more sure you have a piano lamp, or another form of light, to illuminate the keys effectively.

2. You're going to need some form of tuition. In an ideal situation you would take private lessons. If this isn’t possible, there are plenty of excellent multimedia tuition materials available these days and even interactive computer software such as Rocket Piano.

3. Don't take on a song that's too hard. At whatever stage you're at with your playing, don't try to tackle a piece of music that is totally beyond you. It is vitally important that you maintain your interest and enthusiasm and nothing is guaranteed to dampen this more than totally over-stretching yourself and becoming frustrated.

4. Try to get advice from experienced piano players. Try to attend piano recitals and such. in your local area and speak to the musicians and ask them for any tricks that helped them get started. Don't be shy because musicians are usually very nice people.

5. Practice, practice, practice. Practice for as long and often as you can. Repetition is the prelude to being able to play well without even thinking about it. There really is no substitute for daily practice.

So that's the 5 steps. Five key things to keep in mind as you learn to play piano. Playing a musical instrument is a wonderful skill to possess so make sure to keep at it.

How To Learn Piano Fast

July 31st, 2009 by ama

I don’t want to mislead you there is no really easy shortcut to achieving anything in life and playing the piano is no exception.  That said, there are a lot of things you can do to make sure you get the most from your piano playing time.  Planning well-structured practice sessions is one way to ensure an improvement in your playing.  Or, you could work on your weak points to help you move forward.

I’m sure there are some of you out there who find it difficult to learn piano music.  Especially for those of you who have piano recitals or just find it more difficult to retain information than a few years ago.  As I am writing this I am reminded of a quote from The Simpsons in which Homer complains about the new information pushing the old stuff out of his brain.  Well, you may be surprised to know this is probably not too far from the truth.

This is true of anything you do in life and I am sure after reading this you will know just what I mean.  Think for a moment about when you try to do something you haven’t done in a while…you feel rusty, right?  Of course, so does everyone.  You see, many people fail to realise that learning something once is just not enough.  The information will be forgotten or lay dormant until you use it again.

If you are trying to learn piano fast, want to learn how to read piano music or anything else for that matter you will need to practice it regularly.  This is the key to retaining information, cramming just doesn’t work that well.  Sure, you will remember it that evening and maybe the next day but by the week after, without practice the information will surely fade.

This is why when you are learning to play the piano you must use this method.  For instance, if you are learning a particular scale practice it the next day, then in a week and a month after that for as long as necessary.  It is much better to spend a short amount of time frequently than spend hours in a day practicing the same thing.  All the latter will achieve is an extremely frazzled and frustrated piano student.

Remember that it is never too late to learn.  If you consider yourself ‘too old for that now’ you are mistaken!  If you are have the desire and motivation you can take up anything you’ve always wanted to do.  Just remember this advice and you will soon be on your way to achieving those goals.   Also, when learning to play the piano, don’t run before you can walk.  For example, if you are learning how to read piano music choose some easy piano music to start with, otherwise your confidence will take a hit and this will not help at all!

Get The Best Guitar Lessons: 7 Great Tips

July 31st, 2009 by ama

Due to the popularity of the guitar, there are a huge number of guitar courses available to all and in all shapes and sizes.   This is great news if you are learning how to play the guitar as you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing.   As always, there is a downside.

It is no lie there are loads of great courses out there, the thing is, there are also a lot of bad ones too.  If you are going to part with your hard-earned money, do your research and make sure you are getting what you paid for.  Here are 7 tips to show you what you need to consider when looking for the best guitar lessons.

1.    Format.  There are different ways you can access the courses.  Some books come with a CD or DVD.  Others come with a multimedia disc which can be used with a PC.  Some courses also need to be connected to the Internet.  You need to think about your situation with regards to this and also think about how you like to learn.

2.    Level.  You need to make sure you are buying a course which is suitable for your level.  It is important to challenge yourself but trying something too difficult for your level will only deliver a blow to your confidence.

3.    Content.  Think about your reasons for wanting to learn guitar. Do you have a passion for blues and want to learn blues guitar?  Well you can.  There are courses available which focus on the guitar techniques for a particular genre of music for example, rock guitar lessons.  Other courses teach only whole songs.  The choice is available so pick a course which matches your reasons for wanting to learn how to play a guitar.

4.    Quality of Content.  As mentioned, make sure you pick a guitar course which is run by professionals and has a good reputation.  You can look on the Internet for reviews or ask in your local guitar/music shop for advice on which are the best.  Doing this will ensure the course you buy is not only made by experienced teachers and guitarists but is also well run and logically constructed.

5.    User friendly.  Following on from the last point, the course you buy must be user friendly and easy enough to use.  If it is over complicated and you can’t learn from it, you will have lost some money and not learnt the guitar.

6.    Illustrations.  If you can, look through the instructional book.  The best ones are clear concise and easy to understand.  They should also have helpful images which can show you step-by-step what you need to learn.

7.    Cost.  So, you need to look for a course with all the above things which is in line with your budget.  As there are so many available, you are sure to find one which can help you learn how to play a guitar and doesn’t leave a hole in your pocket.

Make Your Own Instrumental Rap Beats

July 31st, 2009 by ama

How would you like to make your own Hip Hop Rap beats? For certain, if you have the opportunity, you would surely want to make your own music for whatever purpose you may have. If you want to host a a party or occasion in your house and you are thinking about playing some cool original rap music, well, then, why not learn how to make one for your own on your own? If you play the guitar and you have nobody to play music with, how about making your own instrumental rap beats and jam along with it?

I, for one, is always fascinated in making my own music but when I was in High School decades ago, I don’t have someone or a group to help me out in materializing my composition. I would resort to record everything to put my song on a tape. I would bang something, simulating a bass drum and then record it. Then, overdubbed it with the sound of a snare drum using anything, then, cymbals, then, record my guitar and the process was finished for a whole day and I have it on record. Back then, I was actually thinking if there were some available “stock beats”, then, maybe, I could record my guitar licks with those beats in the background. But now, these instrumental rap beats are all over the place and I would be very much happy to have my own beats.

And what great timing, I just came across this site that offers the best hip hop beats and all I need to do is to get copies for myself and what’s more, they also offer music-making software so that you can make your own beats. If you’re into rap music, this is the best music-making software that you can come across. Just write those words that you are longing to rap and then, make your own beats using this software. Now, that’s not entirely difficult, would you agree?

Rocket Piano Video

Do you have what it takes when it comes to learning piano? OK, so it is not like you are going to war or participating in some extreme sport but you still need to have what it takes to learn piano!

The question is a little dramatic but, as with every pastime or hobby or skill, you need to have certain personal qualities to be able to do it and do it well. However, many people would not credit learning piano with a wide range of personal qualities because it tends to be associated with perseverance and musicality alone.

They are most definitely two of the qualities needed but there is a lot more to it than that.
If learning piano sounds like fun to you and you want to give it a go then try it because it is a hobby that you will get a lot of pleasure out of. However, if you feel that you might want to give it a try but need a little convincing then check out the personal qualities that you may need below to see whether or not you have what it takes:

• Musicality – This is obvious. You need musicality to be able to feel the music and work with it. A musical ear will be able to tell when a note is off or when something does not work that well whereas someone with little musicality will be unable to tell and may just follow the instructions blindly. This also goes for the learning piano process. If something does not feel let alone sound right then you need to be able to notice in order to change it.

• Patience And Perseverance – If you do not get something right first time then try try try again, as the saying goes. This especially applies when learning piano because you need to be able to walk away after a bad practice and come back refreshed an hour later and just try it one more time before giving up for the day. You need patience and the need to be able to ignore frustration as and when it arises.

• Hand To Eye Co-ordination – This goes without saying really given the fact that you need to be able to read music whilst you are playing the keys when learning piano. This skill that comes over time with the piano but if you have a measure of it before you begin then it will stand you in good stead.

• Common Sense – You need common sense when learning piano because there are just as many technical aspects as there are creative and artistic aspects. For example, you need to have common sense when it comes to how you learn. You need to start at the bottom and learn all the basic skills before you progress. This may sound obvious but you would be surprised about how many people ignore it. You must employ common sense and you will find that you really improve quickly. Of course, this also taps into organisational skills as well. Make sure that you have set practice times and do so regularly. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money.

Rocket piano review is designed to assist you quickly and easily start playing astonishing piano.

• Determination – You must be determined to succeed. Learning piano will try your patience and will test just h willing you are to dedicate yourself to it. The going will get tough so you have to be able to grit your teeth and kick start your determination if you want to succeed. Without determination, you will give up in a matter of weeks so make sure that it is in place before you start otherwise you will end up wasting a lot of money!

What Is It Like to Have Herpes?

July 31st, 2009 by ama

I listened with a heavy feeling as my friend described to me what it is like to live with herpes, a sexually transmitted virus that can wreak havoc on anyone’s life. Once she contracted herpes, she felt terribly awful. There are a number of physical and mental consequences to living with herpes. Sacrifices and adjustments have to be made.

As a responsible person, caring about the welfare of others, she always discloses her condition to any potential romantic interest that enters into her life. Four out of five men will reject her upon learning that she has herpes.

In fact, only a minority of people won’t contract herpes after several years in a relationship with someone that has the disease. A few people seem to have some natural immunity to it.

Herpes is a virus that ‘hides’ inside the cells of the body in a dormant state. From time to time there will be an ‘outbreak’ where the herpes will travel to the area of infection. There may or may not be visible lesions on the surface of the body at that time.

It is entirely possible to contract herpes from a person who does not have any visible outbreak. Using latex does not always prevent transmission.

Sadly, I remember the younger sister of a high school girlfriend. She was only seventeen years old when she contracted herpes from her very first sexual partner. I can only imagine what it would be like to be a seventeen-year-old woman and know that I had to cope with herpes for the long term.

This is a troubling social disease. A large amount of people on Earth today carry herpes in their bodies. If all people were to remain abstinent until marriage it could practically wipe out the problems of herpes and other social diseases within a generation or two. This is not to debate morality. Yet, those who endorse abstinence have a sound point from a biological perspective.

Medically it is basically accepted that herpes is a life long condition and that a person can never fully get rid of it. The pain and duration of outbreaks can be mitigated through medicine.

In the alternative health realm, natural healers vary greatly in their viewpoints. Most believe as the medical establishment does, that it is currently impossible to rid the body of the herpes virus.

Their focus is usually on preventing outbreaks through the use of proper diet. They often talk about what foods can trigger or avoid an outbreak. Some will discuss this in terms of how the blood PH has an effect on the virus and that certain foods can create a slightly alkaline PH which they believe may help to prevent outbreaks.

Then there is at least one alternative healer and probably more that believe it is possible to eliminate the herpes virus via elevated oxygen levels in the body. Medical science has not confirmed this and it is unknown to me if any experiments have been conducted to verify or refute the possibility. I have no interest in arguing for or against this potentially tantalizing theory.

If you have or think you might have herpes or any other health condition, contact your doctor immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment. This article is intended to be entertaining in value and is not meant to provide any advice about herpes or any other illness whatsoever. When facing any health problems, visiting a doctor is the most prudent course of action you can take.

Why Hire A Saxophone Teacher?

July 31st, 2009 by ama

Why hire a saxophone teacher in Singapore?

What’s the most important aspect to consider in finding the best saxophone teacher in Singapore that suits your learning needs? It’s finding the one who has love over music and can share that passion with you. Someone who knows the latest trend in saxophone industry and can teach you in an exciting and enjoyable manner.
Here are some reasons why you should hire a saxophone teacher in Singapore:

• Selecting a good quality instrument. Many low quality instruments are being manufactured today. A student with an inferior quality saxophone is a disadvantage. Even it is not required for the student to have the best quality instrument as with the professional; still a student’s instrument must have a good intonation together with a well constructed and a good mechanically adjusted saxophone. Since only few amateurs are able to appraise an instrument, the teacher is highly recommended to do the selection of the saxophone to be used by the student.

Selection of a good quality mouthpiece. Selecting the proper mouthpiece to be used by the student is also important. Even the best quality saxophone will be difficult to play if combined with an ill-suited mouthpiece. A good saxophone teacher in Singapore should know how to properly select the best mouthpiece that suits the student’s saxophone.

• Learning of Saxophone Vibrato. Saxophone teachers can teach the students to become a sensitive musician. Sensitively in music means the ability to differentiate the quality of sound produced by the saxophone. One requirement of being a saxophonist is the knowledge about modulating vibrato. The pitch is greatly affected by the vibrato.

• The proper use of the tongue in playing the saxophone. There are several tonguing methods used in playing saxophone. Tonguing should be taught at earlier lessons in playing saxophone; however it should after having mastered the skills in embouchure and breathing habits. One of the tongues functions is to stop the reed’s vibration and not to block the air supply.

Meaning, as the tonguing is made by the student he must at the same time continually supply air through the saxophone. As the student learns, the more efficient tonguing methods he will discover.

Also, tonguing exercises done slowly is an effective way of learning how to coordinate the tongue with the fingers while playing the saxophone. This technique is especially effective to beginners who experience great challenge in doing so.

• Preparation and placement of the reed. A reed when properly set, last as twice as long compared to a poorly designed set up. There are several ways of setting up the reed ranging from just using a piece of glass to a time consuming setup but more successful method of using a silicon carbide paper. And the good thing is, there’s always a teacher to guide the student expertly.

• Proper breathing. Everything taught to the student regarding tone production is useless unless correct breathing is learned. To properly play the saxophone at its fullest, the student must be taught the technique on creating the largest possible air intake in which the lungs may expand.

• Fingering made easy. The fingering of the saxophone is not that complex. Saxophone instructors in Singapore encouraged students to experiment and look for the best fingering technique that will suit to specific problems in timbre, dynamics or intonation.
